Blog Tweaks

As most of you know that read this blog faithfully, I took a break for the first time in 4 years from blogging each week to rethink how I’m doing my blog. A lot of you wrote me with words of encouragement, and that means so much to me. I did a lot of thinking, and asked a few of my closest friends for input.

One of the best pieces of advice I got was from Kerry Magruder. He’s an self-described intermittent blogger along with being the curator of Oklahoma University’s rare books library. We were drinking coffee at his house this week, and I was telling him about how I was struggling to figure out the focus of the blog. He thought about it for a minute, then said “I only write blogs that I will want to refer someone to in the future to help them.”

Kerry had hit the nail on the head. That’s exactly why I blog, and that’s exactly what I’m going to keep focusing on in the coming years.

So what’s going to change? A few things.

1. I’ll be doing more series blogs where I go in-depth on a topic or problem. I’ll be combining the complete blogs together into a how-to guide, and offering them on my website as a free downloadable e-book. This will allow me to really dig deep on subjects, while not bogging the casual reader down with long blogs.

2. I’m launching a MainStage-only youtube channel that will feature really, really fast video tutorials. My goal it to take my MainStage Mondays guides and turn each into a 1-2 minute video tutorial, and post them each week. I don’t have any videos up yet, but go here to subscribe so you get notified when I start posting them.

I’m excited about the future, and I hope you continue to take the time out of the your schedule to read each week. You mean a lot to me.

Thanks!
