2 Free FX Plugins
I’ve been really digging a few small plugins over the last week, and I thought I’d share.
1. Isotope’s Vinyl
This handy little plugin simulates vinyl, but does a lot more than that. It adds crackle, hum, buzz, and scratchiness to your clean instruments, making it sound a little more “warm” and old-fashioned. My friend and fellow producer Ben Jackson suggested using it to tame shakers and hi-hats, and it really works.
2. TAL-Chorus- LX
Drew Holcomb and the Neighbor’s keyboardist Grant Pittman turned me on to this handy little Juno-esque chorus plugin. It adds the classic chorus FX of the now-legendary Juno-series keyboard to any sound source you run through it, including your built-in soft synths. I stuck this thing on an ES2 sawtooth patch, and it brought new life into it.
