The Gear Deception
Having great equipment will not make you create great music.
Even having deep knowledge of how something works doesn’t produce great art. Music gear manufacturers and retailers try to sell us this lie all the time through catalogues, video promos, and print ads.
And we eat it up, because getting excited about gear gives us an emotion similar to the feeling we get when we make music (at least it does for me). Like a sugar high, it’s temporary and lacks substance. Which means we have to keep coming back for more.
Instead of looking for the next great piece of equipment, let’s focus on making what we already own do amazing things.
